A petfood case study in the UK (PCM Easyfeed pump solution)

Do you have ground pet food meat slurries arrive on site in Dolav trays and require a dosing system to precisely dose the meat emulsion directly into your extruder?

PCM was approached by a pet food manufacturer in the UK with a bespoke request where they required a dosing system consisting of two pumps sharing the same hopper feed. Both pumps required a different flowrate where pump A was required to dose up to 1,000kg/hr and pump B to dose up to 2,000 kg/hr with varying viscosities from 500cp up to 45,000cp with consideration for particulates.

PCM offered two pump models from their EasyFeed range which share the same pump body which was mated to a 1,200-litre hopper. The pumps have an Archimedes screw to help feed meat emulsions into the pump chamber that may have a non-homogenous texture. The pump body can be dismantled easily via the removal of clamps to help reduce maintenance times. The NBR stator and the wetted parts are compliant to 1935/2004 food contact directive and the pump bodies also have drainage ports to aid cleaning. Pressure sensors are also installed to allow monitoring of the discharge to minimise the risk of damage due to blockage at the extruder. Coriolis flowmeters are also added to each line for mass flow control. The pump speeds can be regulated at the control panel via PID loop or also run in manual mode independently for priming and cleaning.

Additive or colour dosing with in-line continuous mixing via the PCM Dosymix Dynamic mixing package can also be added as an optional extra at the discharge for complete control of the meat and additives, removing the need for batch mixing tanks.
